Project 1A Checklist
For each page in your design you should consider:
- Layout - if the layout is new then you should produce three diagrams to
show development of your ideas AND justify your final choice in terms of
your chosen audience
- Three drafts in software - based on your final layout, the first should be
plain; the second should show development related to the audience e.g.
font face, font size, colours; the tird should show a response to scrutiny by your proof reader and any final changes you want to make
- Sources - an account of where your sources came from and how you used
them; it is not enough just to include a copy of a source, you have to say where it came from, why it was useful and how you used it
- Show some source material that you didn't use e.g. images, text
- Include details of one multiple criteria search and two refined or
hyperlinked searches (across the project as a whole, not for each page); for each search you should include what you were looking for, what you found and how you used the material you found; for a refined search you should show how you changed the criteria to narrow down the search; for a hyperlinked search you should show the pages you went through.
- Formatting - show changes to your source items such as size or orientation of an image, font of text;
show items before and after the format changes e.g. in a graphics editor or
text box
- Editing - show any changes of content you made in your images or text e.g.
deleting part of an image (clone tool) or select/delete, writing on images, summarising text
- Spell-check the page (proof-read the first draft and incorporate changes
into the second draft)
- Make notes as you encounter them on copyright examples, errors and
difficulties (for Additional Skills)
In addition you need:
- Numbers - there should be at least one table of numbers in the work
- Three examples of deriving new information, one from text, one from
images and one from numbers e.g. a bulleted list from a piece of text, a new graphic from a
combination of two or more others, a chart from a table of numbers, a total
of a column of numbers, a currency conversion for a price
- Consistency - how the pages are similar
e.g. fonts, colours, layout, headings, body text
- Appropriate file names - show a screen shot of your project folder (make
sure the names are legible) and comment briefly on the names
- Additional Skills - comparison with non-ICT methods, the advantages and
disadvantages of using ICT, working safely, taking care of equipment,
avoiding loss of information, health risks, computer viruses
Copy this list and edit it to give the page numbers of the features in your
work:
Key Skills
0-2 Marks
Find different types of information from an IT source (one) and non-IT
sources (more than one)
Use a computer to create a piece of work (2 pages)
Use editing techniques to bring in some of the information (copy/paste)
3-4 Marks
Include text, images and numbers in the work
Use a computer to develop a piece of work
5-7 Marks
State the purpose of the work
Experiment with layouts and choose an appropriate layout for the
selected information
8-10 Marks
Write down how the development matches the purpose of the work
Show consistency throughout the work (fonts, font size, colours, layout)
11-13 Marks
Use a computer to develop a significant piece of work (8 pages)
Use a spell checker or proof-reader to check the accuracy of the
work (save proof-reading till later)
Save information using appropriate folders and file names
14-16 Marks
Use a computer to develop a significant piece of work using
different types of information from a range of IT sources and non-IT sources (Internet counts as one IT source so you must others such as digital photographs or clip art from a local source)
Search for information using multiple criteria (document one example in full)
17-19 Marks
Use hyperlinks or refined searches to identify information which
is suitable for the purpose of the work (document at least two searches, preferably one of each; even better, two of each)
Use formatting techniques to bring in some of the information (two examples of text, two examples of images, two examples of numbers)
Use editing techniques to bring in some of the information (two examples of text, two examples of images)
20-21 Marks
Derive new information for inclusion in the work (one example of text, one example of image, one example of number)
Additional Skills
0-2 Marks
Compare own use of IT with other methods
Work safely and take care of equipment and avoid losing
information
