Mathematical modelling is used in many situations to predict how objects will behave in certain conditions, for example the performance of a F1 racing car, of rockets and aeroplanes flying through the air and the path taken by fire and smoke in a confined space. Our models are much simpler than these.
A model has three main parts, inputs, processing and outputs. The input may be from a single cell or from a range of cells and the output will follow a similar pattern.
