Aims

• Find out about the changing world;
• Consider how to react to the changes;
• Create a presentation for a young audience on the changing world they will face as they grow up.

Starter: Film 1: Shift Happens  Shift Happens (2010)

Consider: how communication skills in Computing are assessed.

Film 2: 21st Century Educational Reality

Through a class forum and working in pairs, identify themes from the films. You will use the themes later as headings in a presentation.

Task Part 1

Make a presentation for a target audience of pupils in the year below on the theme of how the world is changing and what we in education (schools and their pupils) should do about it.

In pairs and using a word processor for notes:

• choose appropriate software;
• make a plan for the presentation;
• devise a strategy for working together e.g. make individual plans, review each other's work and improve both
• show at least two stages of the plan;
• choose appropriate techniques to develop the presentation;
• make the presentation easily adaptable to a different target audience e.g. teachers.

To improve collaboration use a Wiki - someone starts a document then mails a link to the others in the group.

Task Part 2

Through a class forum, identify themes from the homework films.

Extend your presentation to include these themes e.g.

• Investment in education
• What countries are good at
• Globalised world

Continue developing the presentation by considering:

• Skills pupils should acquire: communication, collaboration, creativity ,critical thinking, problem solving, self-direction
• The different ways that you can learn
• The ways that you think are most effective for your own learning: put these in order of effectiveness for you and your partner
• Computing & information skills you should learn

Film 7: Careers in Computing

Film 8: Pathways in Computer Science

Research careers in Computing and make posts to the forum of jobs that involve Computing skills. Post at least one distinct job description to the forum (if someone else gets there first you will have to find another).

Add one or more slides with a list of the opportunities now available in this area.

Assessment

Peer review of notes, forum comments and presentation

Marking criteria:

• Suitable software chosen for presentation?
• Presentation has sufficient breadth and depth? (at least 10 slides with range of points from the material)
• Presentation uses techniques such as images and bullet points?
• Presentation is suitable for the target audience?

Award a mark out of 5 for each one.

Your teacher will check that the level of assessment is accurate.
